A very Happy Dassera...
The 'weather man' that I am on my blog here I have some news for all of you - you probably do not care about it at all... but since you visit my blog I shall put you through the torture of reading this piece of news...
here it is... WHITE IS IN!!!!
it is snowing in Denver - really HARD - its all white behind me right now as I type this sitting by the window. Yes -I am not prepared for the winter.
And since I always put you through the torture of weather updates in Denver I thought I should entertain you with some facts about this Mile High City that I reside in...
1. Denver is really a Mile High City - The purple row of seats at Coors Field and the 15th step on the west side of the Capitol building are the 'mile markers' - both are exactly one mile above the sea level
2. one of the affectionate nicknames for Denver: 'Napa Valley of Beer' -Denver has more brewers per capita than any other city in the country... yes we do love our beer.
3. Denver has the largest City Park in the Nation - we do not have a shortage of parks... 397 parks and pathways... large, small, forested areas, skate parks...
4. Denver enjoys 300 days of sunshine annually.
5. Denver is a cultural city with the highest educated population in America. ( i think this is an important one)
6. Denver Colfax Avenue is the longest continuous street in the U.S
7. Denver is the birthplace of one of America's favorite sandwiches : the Cheeseburger
8. No surprises here - but Denver loves its outdoors and sports... it is one of only a few cities to have 8 professional sport teams!
9. Denver has the 10th largest downtown in America.
So here is a little something about the cute little city and finally set apart by a set of truly friendly people!

man vs nature- as always nature wins... easily!!!
Divine nature made the country

Nature did not fail in its task... more than often it surpassed our expectations...
But Human art did - in not one but many places....
I recently visited two places that probably define one of the best of nature and surely the worst of humanity
Lets start with the worst of Humanity : Las Vegas... I knew I would dislike the place- I knew it is the biggest crime ever designed by mankind- but my first step into the city - and I even blew my own expectations... Las Vegas - a living nightmare- a curse built by humanity for itself - a built environment that shouts 'criminal waste' from every possible angle that exists.... of energy - of disrespect to the environment- of waste- of vulgarity -of lack of taste -
truly the built environment in Las Vegas is Humanity's biggest slap on designers and each and every person involved in shaping the built environment...
...waiting to get out of the monstrosity - I found solace in brilliance ( would be an understatement) of nature... the Grand Canyon - words fall short to express the 'gorgeousness' of this piece of art carved by nature - A natural wonder you must visit in your lifetime...
and yes I do believe one should go to Vegas for sure too - ONCE - to experience the criminal waste of everything possible on this planet!
p.s: a fact I recently learned - Las Vegas consumes 30 % of the energy used in the United States of America!!!

ah! missed her again
... a couple of weeks ago - the Colorado Marathi Mandal had its Ganesh Utsav festival.
...mom dad and I excited to go... not necessarily to meet the 'co-marathis' but to get darshan...
.. of Shri Ganesh...
and also... our very own Madhuri Dikshit- oops... Madhuri Dikshit-Nene...
We all got ready,reached almost on time, took our share of 'masale bhat' that I had volunteered to bring, enjoyed the Arti, had a wonderful Ganesh darshan and the lunch - and actually forgot all about our Mrs. Nene.
Post lunch my cousin's family and ours-- none of us showed too much enthusiasm to really 'hang out' at the event... so we left.... my cousins family to meet another appointment... and me with parents to some other important business: the Coors brewery!!! and that was that!!!
Last night my cousin mentioned to me... HEY! YOU KNOW WHAT MY FRIEND CALLED ME... SHE MENTIONED THAT MADHURI ARRIVED RIGHT AFTER YOU GUYS LEFT!
and I was like OHHHH DAMNNN!!! once more...
Last year I missed her at the Diwali function and this time maybe we drove out and she drove in at the same time!!!
anyway - for those who know Denver: I used to think that Nene and family live in Aurora- but found out recently that they live in Cherry Creek - impressed - or rather relieved I would say - that she doesn't live in that crappy suburb!

an odd day in the life of...
... the kaju katli...
a mithai that we have all relished...its one of those ones that most people you know like...
but today was a different day... it was SURELY RELISHED by ALL... but alongside there were RARE questions that our favorite mithai went through...
first of all it sat on our breakfast table at work with a little post-it notes by 'yours truly' stating its ingredients : cashew, sugar and silver foil ( you know with all the American fuss about allergies I never want to take a chance and hence i always play it safe to state the ingredients whenever I bring Indian food to any table)
a mithai that we have all relished...its one of those ones that most people you know like...

1. what is the silver?
2. can I eat the silver?... i hope i wont be poisoned.
3. what is this called in Indian... (i say kaju- barfi)... 'catch-u' baarfi is it?
4. hey you feeding us lead coating? ( i say - yes - i wanted to scare you - in my mind i say - well i am Indian not Chinese you see..)
5. yummy... that looks very shiny
6. is this something you would eat on an everyday basis or is it something that's eaten on special occasions? ( answer that one for me please someone)
7. we have been munching on it all day but were just wondering if the silver is actually metal? (if you have been munching on all day and if it actually were metal - wouldn't you have tons of metal in your stomach by now - me thinks!)
8. do you have to take out the silver before eating it?
and then there also was ... the usual -'this is so good'... blah blah...
... anyway the big box of 1 and half kg of CATCH - U BAARFI was over by the end of the day... sitting in every ones stomach somewhere.... shining away to glory I bet!!!

mind your own business please
how many times have you come across unnecessary advice about your life?... especially about matters you would rather talk about only if you feel the need to..
... I seriously would love to be there if you need someone to hear you out and 'need' advice... but the voluntary advice, that comes just like that is the most unappreciated...
... all I wonder is do these people {who love to advice, point out how and what should be done ... about anything and everything - mostly important ( often life changing) matters in another person's life} realise that the words that come out of their mouth could end up altering that persons life... please - if you want to say something 'think twice' and pick your words right... don't be frivolous and if you are doing it to give yourself the feeling of 'me the lifesaver' then PLEASE FORGET IT... just mind your own business...
and surprisingly these are people you can easily categorise,... they are the ones who love to do it over and over..as if its some business... suddenly if they hear about someone they will jump to the 'cause'...
a classic example to illustrate the above is those house-wives with nothing to do sitting there to suggest guys/girls to people to get married to... like 'middle men'... aren't they afraid of suggesting without even knowing the guy or the girl... aren't they afraid of being responsible for something that doesn't work out?

... the sun didn't shine bright at 6:30 am...
... the summer clothes in the closet weren't the hot picks of the day...
... the hair experienced some winter mist spray on them
... the closed toe shoes got their first look...
... the fall jackets are all excited and ready to show-off...
... the iced teas got replaced by hot lattes...
... and just like that, the 80s of two days ago ran away some where... to be replaced by the late 40s.... so here is to the first glimpse of Fall - High of 55F.
Hopefully this was a one- off day and we will see some HOT days again... oh yes... the mountains are expected to get their first SNOW SHOWERS this weekend!
WELCOME FALL... I am not fond of what follows you at all... and I am not really happy that you took over summer but I can try and accommodate you somewhere in the list of my likings... if you show us some wonderful colors... less windy and cold days!!!!

I have been praying to you all along with this one assumption...
... an assumption that we humans take for granted...
which is ... 'we have utmost faith in those who understand us the most'
and just the same way when I converse with you I take it for granted that you know what I mean... that you understand me and think like I do... I look up to you cos you know much more than I do.. .and thus assume you will understand what I mean... and thus I have utmost faith in you...
